Ever So Versatile

Just got this necklace and bracelet (it's both!) up on my Etsy site; I had been thinking about doing this for a long time and was thrilled that it actually worked.

I just loved the idea of a bunch of bracelets worn as a really BIG ring necklace, and this worked so perfectly that it was a delight to put together.

Takes someone with a bit of chutzpah to actually wear this stuff, though; I don't think some of my edgier pieces are for the faint of heart.  

Then again, maybe wearing some of my edgier things would help some ladies develop a bit more boldness in other areas of their lives.  Live large, ladies, live large!  Don't dream small dreams!

The Soft Light of Sterling

Just as gold traditionally has been associated with sunlight and male qualities, so silver has been associated with moonlight and the female.  Both gold and silver have their place in a jewelry wardrobe, though many people have preferences for one or the other.  

I love the soft colors of the silver set against the glass jewels in this Depression era brooch hung on a ribbon necklace. Such gorgeous craftsmanship was lovingly created back then--each prong set glass jewel is set just like a real jewel to catch the light--how often do we see anything like that in modern costume jewelry?

Many brooches of the period had either tremblers (elements set on tiny springs to give them movement) or simply had movable elements as this pin does--the thin wires give each branch a bit of flexibility and lifelike depth.

But the silver, to my mind, puts the entire thing in a bed of moonlight.  I even left a bit of the patina on the piece to encourage that effect.  We need the brightness of the day, but also the peace and rest of the night.    

Scarab Bracelets

I can remember back in the 60's how much I admired these gemstone scarab bracelets; they were so chic and so expensive!  I have one of my own now, and have this one for sale on my etsy website.  If it doesn't sell quickly, I may just layer mine with this one, since I love the look of layers of bracelets; it just enriches the effect.

What is is allure of the scarabs?  I'm not sure, but certainly the exotic is part of it.  Yes, some believe they have an actual effect on health and well being; the scarabs themselves are connected with the Egyptian beliefs about the movement of the sun and rebirth and resurrection.  Gemstones are believed to help the flow of energy: the energy in our body is a real thing that is, indeed, affected by things around us.  Whether these pretty little scarab stones would actually help energy flow or not, they are pretty, and pretty is good in my book.

Try layering a couple--or more!--bracelets in the same color range and general shape or style.  It's a classic way to kick up the fashion look a notch.
